A personality disorder develops in you (or in your loved one) patterns of thought and behavior that are socially maladaptive and cause immense pain to you and those around you.
You shouldn’t accept this as something normal.
You might believe this is just who you are, that it’s your personality, and that there’s no solution. However, this is far from the truth, and it is a condition that is difficult to identify.
Develop a positive self-image and the ability to build solid interpersonal relationships.
Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) is a relatively new concept in psychology, having only been recognized since 1980. According to the Asociación Océano TLP, between 2% and 8% of the population in Spain suffers from BPD. Within this percentage, at least 10% have attempted suicide.
The association notes that BPD affects women three times more often than men, although this might be because women seek treatment more frequently than men. Despite this, there is a limited number of psychiatrists and psychologists specialized in this type of disorder.
